He immediately believed that the information must have been leaked and he vowed to find the leaker that night.Scaramucci already had an idea of who it might be- though no apparent proof- and he went public with his speculation.In a since-deleted tweet,  Scaramucci said that he would be contacting federal authorities - specifically the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Justice- to find the leaker and included the Twitter handle of White House chief of staff Reince Priebus. New Yorker writer Ryan Lizza confirmed that Scaramucci meant to imply that Priebus was involved.Scaramucci has previously said that he and Priebus “have been personal friends for six year s” who are “a little bit like brothers, where we rough each other up a little, which is totally normal for brothers.” But this latest public dispute appears to be more than a brotherly spat. Scaramucci later clarified that his tweet wasn’t a direct attack at Priebus, but a “public notice to leakers that all Sr Adm [senior administration] officials are helping to end illegal leaks.”But he also ended that clarifying tweet by once more including the Twitter handle of Priebus.There’s lots to unpack here about Scaramucci’s tweet and subsequent press tour. Don’t take it publicPeople loathe being publicly humiliated, a nd it’s a good way to make a permanent enemy. Tweeting at your superior in a negative post is like CC’ing your boss in an email insulting them. Not only is it extremely unprofessional to air your dirty laundry in public, it also sows conflict, confusion and chaos among your staff.According to some journalists, however, that may be exactly Scaramucci’s goal.3.  Don’t make accusations without proofWhatever your chosen method of distribution for your grievances - whether it is social media (bad idea) or a private conversation - be responsible about your words. Don’t air your heated suspicions about your colleague unless you can back them up with more than a hunch. When you get the proof and can show the result, then you go to higher powers.So far, it’s unclear if the release of Scaramucci’s disclosure forms was actually illegal. The day after he implied Priebus was a felon, Scaramucci let the accusation hang without clearing it up.“When I put out a tweet and I put Reince’s name in a tweet, they’re all making the assumption that it’s him because journalists know who the leakers are,” Scaramucci said in a CNN interview Thursday. “So if Reince wants to explain he’s not a leaker, let him do that. But let me tell you about myself. I’m a straight shoot er and I’ll go right to the heart of the matter.”Implying that Reince is not a “straight shooter” is not a ringing endorsement of Priebus’s character, and it makes an already messy situation messier and uglier. Appealing to the court of public opinion should be a last resort. Internal mediation between you and the co-worker causing you conflict should always come first.What’s the penalty if you don’t follow these steps? Reputational harm. Scaramucci, after only one week in the job - and still without official clearance - has made his public image about infighting and treachery towards a colleague, rather than representing the President’s position. There's a less stressful way to receive smartphone  notifications There's a less stressful way to receive smartphone  notifications After you feel a buzz in your pocket or see a flash on your phone, your attention is already fractured.You could pick up your phone and see if what’s called you away is something you really need to address immediately - or you could try and focus on your work, all the while wondering what you’re missing out on.Since it can take close to 25 minutes to get back on track after a distraction, according to researchers who study productivity, this is obviously a recipe for a distracted day where not much gets done.Fortunately, we are learning better ways to handle smartphone notifications, according to research being conducted at Duke University’s Center for Advanced Hindsight, which was presented by senior behavioral researcher Nick Fitz at a recent American Psychological Association conference. The research was conducted in collaboration with the startup Synapse, which is incubated at the Center.Fitz and collaborators have found that batching notifications into sets that study par ticipants receive three times a day makes them happier, less stressed, feeling more productive, and more in control. That works better than getting notifications normally, getting them once per hour, or even than blocking them of completely.“Turning them off doesn’t really work,” Fitz said in a follow-up interview after the conference. “But we can [get notifications] in a smarter way.”So many notificationsFor the particular study Fitz discussed at the conference, they analyzed the notifications that people got on their phones and found that the average person got between 65 and 80 notifications per day (people may check their phones more frequently, that’s just the number of notifications that show up).So for their study, for two weeks they had a control group check their phones normally, one group receive notifications in a batch every hour, another group that received three batches of notifications (at 9 a.m., 3 p.m., and 9 p.m.), and one group that got no notification s.While not receiving notifications people could check their phones normally but wouldn’t see anything on their lock screen - the phone would ring for calls but not leave a “missed call” on the lock screen.In general, people report that phone notifications make them feel stressed, unhappy, interrupted, and non-productive. That held true for the study control group. Receiving notifications even once an hour was so similar to this that it didn’t make much of a difference.Surprisingly for Fitz, turning notifications off completely didn’t work either. People did feel that they checked their phones more “intentionally,” which the researchers considered positive, but people were also anxious about what they were missing out on. It’s possible that over a longer period of time, several months, people may have adjusted and enjoyed this experience more, according to Fitz. Or, perhaps a system that let some notifications through - emails from a boss or calendar reminders abou t important meetings - could have assuaged that anxiety.But three batches of notifications seemed to be the sweet spot, with people feeling more productive, positive, and in control.Building an even better systemAccording to Fitz, the ideal system would be context-aware - it would recognize the best times for a person to get a batch of notifications and might allow certain particularly important notifications through.“Interruptions, in general, aren’t great but it’s better if they come at opportune times,” said Fitz.The ideal system might be location-aware and give you your first batch of notifications as you arrive at work or hop on the subway, a second batch at the end of a lunch break, and a third batch as you head home for the evening. Perhaps emails might come through that way, but less-important notifications from Facebook would only be delivered once per day in the evening.The fact that this worked was somewhat surprising for Fitz, as notifications are just one comp onent that can add stress to complicated lives. But it turns out that even adding some element of control can really improve people’s lives.“It’s not as if this is some panacea, we’re not going to solve ADD with this,” said Fitz. “But it certainly has an effect on people.”The Synapse team plans on releasing the app they built to regulate notifications, Daywise, to the public within the next few weeks. (The study was conducted only with Android phones since it wasn’t possible to have that level of control over Apple devices for now.)

ASMEs Five Strategic Technologies Manufacturing ASMEs Five Strategic Technologies Manufacturing ASME's Five Strategic Technologies: Manufacturing This is the first in a series of ASME News articles on the Societys five strategic technology focus areas: robotics, bioengineering, clean energy, manufacturing and pressure technology. This article will focus on ASMEs activities related to the topic of manufacturing. A few years ago, ASME volunteers and staff began an effort to identify strategic technologies that could impact future ASME products, programs and technical content. After an extensive process that included gathering market intelligence and input from subject matter experts from both inside and outside the Society, the Board of Governors approved five strategic technologies that would be the basis of ASMEs technology portfolio. A $12 trillion industry, manufacturing was selected because of its significance as a key driver of the U.S. and world economies. A promising, emerging sector of the industry additive manufacturing, or 3D printing was identified as an entry point for ASME to begin to expand its presence in the manufacturing market, taking into account ASMEs many years of experience in product design and safety, additive manufacturings forecast of projected growth and its anticipated impact on the global supply chain. Additive manufacturing was a suitable niche for ASME to begin to expand its role in manufacturing, particularly given the growing digitization of the industry and the dearth of knowledge and experience in design for additive manufacturing, according Raj Manchanda, ASMEs business development director for manufacturing. One area that ASME could explore in additive manufacturing is the qualification of 3D-printed parts, Manchanda continued. As a manufacturer, it is important to know that the part you have printed is exactly what you said it would be, he said. It is also critical to verify that the material properties are what theyre supposed to be. Qualifying that part, particularly if its going to be a production part, is extremely important. There could be an opportunity not only for ASME standards, but also for conformity assessment programs, he said. ASME Standards Certification has undertaken a number of initiatives related to additive manufacturing over the past few years including the publishing of a draft standard for trial use, Y14.46-2017, Product Definition for Additive Manufacturing, which supplements the requirements of Y14.5 for additive manufacturing designs, and the recent introduction of a new standard, Y14.47-2019, Model Organization Practices, intended to be the foundation for design development efforts in a model-based enterprise (MBE) a manufacturing strategy in which an annotated 3D digital model serves as the definitive information source for all stages of a products lifecycle. In addition, several new Standards Certification groups related to manufacturing were recently formed, including the VV-50 Subcommittee on Verification and Validation of Computational Modeling for Advanced Manufacturing; the Board on Pressure Technology Codes and Standards/Board on Nuclear Codes and Standards (BPTCS/BNCS) Special Committee on the Use of Additive Manufacturing for Pressure Retaining Equipment; and a new Subcommittee on Monitoring, Diagnostic, and Prognostic Guidelines for Manufacturing Operations. Project teams are also currently working on a new B89 metrology standard concerning X-ray Computed Tomography and a supplement to the B46.1 surface texture standard that would address additive manufacturing. On the conferences and events front, the ASME Gas Turbine Segment and the International Gas Turbine Institute (IGTI) Division hosted a new event, the Advanced Manufacturing Repair for Gas Turbines, this past March in Berlin, Germany. Following the success of the inaugural Additive Manufacturing Leadership Summit that ASME held at PTC LiveWorx last June, the Society entered into a collaboration with PTC LiveWorx in which ASME will sponsor four sessions, including one on additive manufacturing and the digital transformation of the production line, at LiveWorx 2019 in Boston this June. In addition, the Manufacturing Engineering Division continues to program its annual Manufacturing Science and Engineering Conference (MSEC), which will include a track on additive manufacturing. The conference will be held from June 10-14 at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, in Erie, Pa. ASME Government Relations has hosted several congressional briefings on manufacturing during the past few years, including Manufacturing USA: Securing U.S. Global Leadership in Advanced Manufacturing, in partnership with NIST last October, and Strengthening Americas Manufacturing Heartland in partnership with AIChE in December 2017. More recently, ASME and the United Engineering Foundation sponsored two briefings that were hosted by the House Manufacturing Caucus: Producing Parts with 3D Printing: How Innovations in Additive Manufacturing are Being Deployed Across the U.S. Supply Chain, on March 27, and Organs on Demand: Whats Stopping Us from Made-to-Order Tissues and Organs, on April 10. Other recent and upcoming manufacturing-related activities at ASME include the publication of Mechanical Engineering magazines Manufacturing Special Report last October and the magazines cover story, The State of American Manufacturing 2019, this month; the launch of the magazines annual Emerging Technologies Awards program honoring engineering achievements in each of the five strategic technology areas; and the publication of a special issue of the ASME Journal of Medical Devices on the 3D printing of medical devices this fall and a special issue of the ASME Journal of Computing and Information Science in Engineering on machine learning applications in manufacturing next spring. Although the bulk of the Societys recent endeavors related to manufacturing have dealt with additive manufacturing, that specialty is just one of ASMEs entryways to a larger presence in the manufacturing arena, according to Manchanda, who pointed to smart manufacturing as another area of interest to ASME. In fact, the next meeting of the ASME Manufacturing Technology Advisory Panel the group of thought leaders that provides market insights to ASME regarding its manufacturing endeavors will focus on smart manufacturing and digital transformation. The experts participating in the daylong session, to be held May 30 at ASMEs headquarters in New York, will include representatives from IBM, Boeing, Stryker, Siemens PLM Software, Lockheed Martin, Caterpillar, Intel, HP, TechSolve, Infosys, the Southwest Research Institute and the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining. Other manufacturing-related products and programs are currently in the works at ASME as well. Stay tuned for further updates in future issues of ASME News.

You would hear the old school crowd preaching the benefits of the assumptive and Colombo closes.The newer breed would claim that a sale is simply the result of the relationship and the  rapport  you have to build with the customer. While closing techniques are as varied as the sales professionals employing them, there are some tried and true tips to effectively close a sale. 01 Earn the Right Before you can expect to close a sale, you must first earn the right to ask for the sale. You earn the right by delivering on your promises  and by following up on customer questions. You earn the right by showing up for appointments on time, prepared and eager to serve the customer. Focus each call on how you can help the customer instead of what you can get from the customer, and you will eventually earn the right to ask for the sale. 02 Ask for Next Steps After any customer call or completed action item, ask the customer what he or she thinks should be the next steps. If they are unsure, make suggestions of next steps that move you closer to a close.  Remember that the next step could be to close the sale. Often, inexperienced sales professionals add too many steps before trying to close a sale.   03 Begin With the End in Mind Each step you take in a sales cycle should be leading you towards partnering with your customer. With each customer interaction, remind yourself of where you want to go and focus your efforts on moving in that direction. Without knowing where you are going, you may find yourself taking steps that lead you away from closing the sale. Keep focused on your purpose during each step in the sales process. 04 Give and Receive In most sales cycles, your customers will ask for something. Whether they ask for information, a lower price, product demonstrations or customer referrals, expect that you will be giving a lot during the sales cycle.A good rule to remember is that you should always ask for something after you give something. For example, if the customer asks for a demonstration, ask for their commitment to move forward to the next steps if the demonstration proves that your product or service will fulfill their need.While it may be better to give than to receive, in the sales world, giving and receiving are both equal players with equal amounts of importance. 05 Sell More Value In a price-sensitive market, the winner is the one who can show more value than the asking price. Value is determined not by the market but by your customer. Show them that your product or service has more intrinsic value than the price, and the sale is yours. 06 Under Promise A mistake that many rookie sales professionals make is to promise something that they cannot deliver. For example, if you are selling a product that requires the item be shipped, tell the customer when to expect the item and never suggest that you can get it to them sooner than what is realistic. It is better to tell them that delivery will take longer than what it probably will.  ? 07 Over Deliver If you followed tip No. 6, you will have ample opportunity to over deliver. Delivering an item earlier than expected will be seen by most customers as you going above and beyond for them. However, if youve over promised, youve probably set yourself up to under deliver. This creates a diminished sense of value in the customers mind, making it more challenging for you to close the sale. 08 Be Nice To Your Enemies You will have competition in every sale. Competition can come in the form of another company or from the potential of your customer making no decision. If you put down your competition, you immediately put the customer on the defensive. Doing so may cost you the sale. Instead, praise the competition where they are strong and point out where your company outshines everyone else. 09 Prepare and Plan If you’ve done your work and have built more perceived value than the price you are asking, it’s time for you to prepare and to plan for the close. Preparing includes gathering all the information, paperwork, forms, etc. that the customer will need to move forward. Planning means to anticipate any last-minute objections and how you will respond to them. 10 Close Your Mouth The golden rule in sales is simple: After a closing question is asked, the first person who talks loses. In other words, if youve earned the right to ask for a sale, ask for the sale then say nothing. Rookie sales professionals often talk themselves into and out of a sale.Their excitement and nervousness put their mouths on auto-drive, and they often end up either missing a buying signal or, worse yet, keep talking and end up bringing up something that the customer hadnt thought about yet. Marine Corps Machine Gunner (MOS 0331) Job Description Marine Corps Machine Gunner (MOS 0331) Job Description The Marine Corps Infantry Machine Gunner - known as MOS 0331 in the Military Occupational Specialties (MOS) - handles large machine guns in direct combat. Also known as 31’s by their infantry platoon mates, these heavy machine gunners specifically handle the 7.62mm medium machine gun, the 50 caliber and 40mm heavy machine gun, plus their support vehicles. This position is within the  Infantry Career Field. Those holding the position of machine gunner (MOS 0331) have ranks from private to sergeant. “31’s” tend to be bigger and stronger Marines and many do second weight lifting workouts of the day to build the strength needed to carry the extra rounds and heavy equipment. However, carrying an extra 70 lbs more than everyone else in the platoon will make you strong â€" slow, but strong. The added size and strength is due to the nature of their work. For example, the 240B above weighs on average 27 pounds and the 7.62 ammo loadout is twice as heavier than the .556 weapons as well. For instance, an M16A4 with scope, grenade launcher is typically around 9 pounds in comparison. The ammo of the typical grunt weighs 3.5 lbs for 100 rounds of 5.56 x 45. Also a 100 rounds of 7.62 x 51 weighs 7 pounds. Imagine now carrying 500 to 1000 rounds at a time. Spreading a 100 rounds throughout the platoon with each member is the way to go especially if everyone knows that your next patrol requires some time of being in a hot area with little support quickly on the way. Job of Marine Corps Machine Gunner (MOS 0331) Machine gunners provide direct fire in support of rifle and  Light Armored Reconnaissance  (LAR) squads, platoons and companies, along with infantry and LAR battalions. They can patrol mounted or dismounted. Summary. The machine gunner is responsible for the tactical employment of the  7.62mm medium machine gun, the  50 cal., and  40mm heavy machine-gun, and their support vehicle. Machine gunners  provide direct fire in support of the rifle and LAR squads/platoons/companies and the infantry and LAR battalions. They are located in the weapons platoons of the rifle and LAR companies and the weapons company of the infantry battalion. Noncommissioned officers are assigned as mortar gunners, forward observers, fire direction plotters, and squad and section leaders.
